ADULT THIRD CULTURE KIDS (TCKs)

Where are you from? Adult Third Culture Kids (Adult TKCs) find it difficult to answer this question.

But what are Adult TKCs?

Adult TKCs are people who grew up in more than one culture.

Their lives may seem exciting. But moving from one country to another during childhood can lead to emotional distress and trauma.

You may…

  • experience difficulties defining your cultural identity,
  • have had difficulties grieving over losses,
  • feel ill at ease with people who are familiar with only one culture,
  • find that previous losses make it difficult to form new friendships and relationships,
  • find that previously familiar cultures have lost their familiarity.

Adult Third Culture Kid Therapy

Adult TKCs have often had difficult experiences that are left unprocessed. As they were children when they were uprooted, they may realise late in life that parts of themselves got lost along the way.

As an Adult TKC, I am familiar with all the ups and downs, and pros and cons of that life. As a therapist, I will support you in processing past TKC experiences including grief that was not allowed to express itself when you were a child. We will also find ways for you to fully enjoy the advantages of your TKC experiences.
